Play On, Bravely
Play On, Bravely
Here is the final position from Alan Kuras - Steve Barry, Westchester Chess League, NY 1991.
White, a Class B player, was happy to claim a draw by repetition (after 48.Qd8 Bg5 49.Qh8+ Bh6) against Black,
a USCF Master. As they left the board, a kibitzer leaned over, played 48.Qxd4, said "White is winning" and disappeared into the night.
Was the mystery kibitzer right?
As before, the threat is Qh4++. After 48...Bg5 49.Kh3,
the threat is 50.g4+ fg 51.fg+ Kh6 52.Qh8++.Questions:
1. How does Black defend against this threat?
2. How does White win against Black's best defense?
